About Us

Tuk Tuk is a social enterprise established to enable ordinary people to gain an insight into the complex issues of global poverty. We work hard to establish authentic partnerships with local project workers, who shape the volunteer programmes. We have strong, long-established relationships with many of these workers.

Tuk Tuk ensures that there is no cost to the local community who host volunteers. By staying in hotels and eating in restaurants, we contribute to the local economy. We also ensure that the local projects benefit in tangible ways by receiving resources as well as volunteer time.

As a social enterprise all profits are used to support local workers and their activities in Sri Lanka. This is done through Asha Trust, a UK registered charity (www.ashatrust.co.uk).

Tuk tuk is established on Christian principles and as such is committed to equality of opportunity. We only support projects that are accessible by all community groups, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender or any other reason.

Please see our policy on the links page.

Daily meetings.

‘Debrief’ - Tuk Tuk provides an opportunity each working evening for the team to come together to share the highs and lows of the day. This is a time when we can celebrate the positive and share the challenges. These meetings also provide any practical information needed for the following day. All volunteers are expected to attend the debrief sessions.

‘Thought for the day’ - each morning of the working days we offer an opportunity to meet for a few minutes to reflect on the coming day. (optional)
